A type of journalism
The journalism is a complex profession, but I think that this is good because it makes the career has different areas and that the journalist can choose what they want to do. Inside this types, there is one in which I’m interest: the literary journalism.
Since I have memory I love to read. In my room I have a library with poems, sciences fiction novels, mystery and stories of all kind. However, when I started to study journalism I stop reading those books because I didn’t have much free time - I still don’t -. Then I realize that I want to combine my love for literature and the journalism career, so the literary journalism is an excellent alternative for my future and my profession.
The literary journalism is a different way of communicating the reality that includes a few tools of the narrative writing as the description, the rhythms and a structure that try to do more attractive the story, because in this type of journalism it is believed that it matters how the story is told.
One of the biggest exponent in the development of the literary journalism in Latin America is Gabriel García Márquez, and he is one of my favorite authors. I love his books “Noticias de un secuestro” and “Historia de un náufrago”.
Those stories are an example of the combination between a true and veridical fact that is transformed into a scene that mixes the credibility and veracity of the journalism with the magic of the narrative writing.
The literary journalism is different of the traditional journalism because it provides of a certain freedom when we write, and the freedom of expression is something that every journalist seeks.
I think that this topic is incredibly interesting, I never really stopped to think about this possibility inside the journalism field. I'm a filmmaking student and somehow it reminds me of documentary films, getting into this type of movies you can discover that there's more than just expositive documentaries and that you have infinite possibilities inside it, including the mixture with fiction. Hope you are doing alright :)

BorrarYes, I totally agree with you! I think journalism is a very complex profession. Complex in a sense of how critical are the implications for the profession, the mosaic of alternatives you will work with to reflect our society and lives. Also, it's complex in the multiple array your future profession could take (thinking on your literary journalism projections) I believe reporting on writers works is an excellent way to good to see how different aspects of life is reflected.
ResponderBorrarOn the other hand, I'm glad to see you like GGM. I still have my copy of my young days when I read 'Crónica de una muerte anunciada'...My personal library has several treasures hidden from my school days there somewhere...
I would like to do that type of journalism in the future. Do you know Javier Rebolledo? If you not, I recommend you to read it, I think he is a good contemporary reference of that kind of journalism. His book "La danza de los cuervos" is very good.
